The highly acclaimed Colorado-based progressive bluegrass band, Yonder Mountain String Band, has nominated The Farm dispensary, voted Boulder, Colorado’s #1 recreational dispensary, to release their first ever craft cannabis strain. Yonder will be conducting a naming contest with their fan base to come up with a name for this unique sativa-dominant hybrid.
The Farm has been developing its most innovative craft cannabis strains to date under a new label – The Farm Genetics. Bred in-house with a focus on the complete cannabis experience, The Farm’s genetic artisans have crafted exceptional strains that express the full genetic potential each plant offers.
“Artfully selected from our most outstanding cultivars, our newest flower line features unique cannabinoid ratios, desirable flavor and aroma profiles, and exotic, potent effects.” says Carter Casad, head of R&D at The Farm Genetics. “Combining the best qualities from two of our top strains—award-winning Alpha Blue and the incredibly potent Ghost Trainwreck Haze #9—we created our Yonder Mountain String Band strain. With a flavor reminiscent of a sunny pine forest on a Colorado bluebird day, mixed with a hint of tart blueberries, we’re sure this one will be a Farm and Yonder fan favorite. The energetic, motivating effects and piney flavor from GTH #9 are nicely balanced by Alpha Blue’s euphoric sativa high and sweet fruit flavors. The result is an extremely uplifting, soaring sativa high that pairs well with the dance floor or your favorite summer hiking trail.”
Yonder’s craft cannabis strain naming contest will take place on the band’s Facebook page and run from now until Monday, August 7th, 2017. Two winners will be announced on Monday, the 7th—the first-place winner and a runner-up. Both winners will receive a pair of tickets to the upcoming Yonder concert at Red Rocks on August 19th, 2017, in support of their latest release entitled “Love. Ain’t Love.” The Yonder strain will be available exclusively at the Farm, one week ahead of the band’s Red Rocks show.

The chronic is going to the crème de la crème.
Cannabis cultivators have always had some pretty clever names for strains, and quite often, the honor gets bestowed upon all that glitters. These are just some public figures who have strains named after them: Snoop Dogg, Barack Obama, Lebron James, Peyton Manning, Stevie Wonder, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and Charlie Sheen.
This, however, is not Tom Cruise’s bag. He reportedly considered filing a lawsuit when a strain of California kush, named Tom Cruise Purple, packaged its uber-potent bud with a picture of the actor laughing. (I bet if he was couch-prancing, he’d let it slide.)
Now it’s Yonder Mountain String Band‘s turn. The Nederland bluegrass band paired up with Boulder dispensary The Farm, which will be releasing the group’s namesake cannabis strain. The Farm says the hybrid will be sativa-dominant and Yonder is holding a contest to find a catchy name for the strain. The contest ends Monday, so follow the rules here, click your heels in the air, spin around and puff, puff, pass, los duderinos and las duderinas. Two winners will be announced Monday, snagging each a pair of tickets to see Yonder at Red Rocks on Aug. 19.
This new strain marries the qualities of two of The Farm’s signature buds — Alpha Blue and Ghost Trainwreck Haze #9 (holy 31 percent THC, batfriends) — so it sounds delightfully heady. It’ll be available at The Farm a week ahead of the bluegrass group’s Red Rocks show.
Let’s give the bud’s name a stab: 40 Miles from Denver, 1.5 Miles High. (Nederland’s elevation is 8,228.) Nah, too long. Chasing My Inhale? (Like “Chasing My Tail” from Yonder’s new album, “Love. Ain’t Love”).
Cool Mountain Air. Puff the Magic Yonder. Clam Bake and Shake, Shake, Shake. Strings and Stones. Yonder Magic String Bud.
Fine, I suck. You do the work. I’ll do the hard labor and test the product’s QC when it hits the shelf.
Meanwhile, have a listen to “40 Miles From Denver” while you ponder the great wide Yonder weed.
