  • any of the Mexicana Psilocybe strains are very potent and it seems they may also be the most mystical. In terms of highest active content that honor belongs to the wood lovers. Psilocybe Subaerugrinosa is number one followed very closely by Psilocybe Azurescens then Psilocybe Cyanescens (these wood lovers all store very well when cracker dry) then Psilocybe Semilanceata (known as Liberty Caps) when fresh have a very similar active balance to the Azurescens. After that you have the other wood lovers like Psilocybe Allenii and Psilocybe Serbica and Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiata (which are spring fruiting).

I think that these mushrooms are like major league teams in that even the lowest in the standings can on a good day with a responsive and connected mind take you to other worlds. I have left many off of the list but of the previously listed mushrooms none are more wide spread on earth than The Liberty Cap and I think they deserve mention as a very special active mushroom. The above mushrooms are roughly 2 – 3 times as potent as P. Cubensis which are what one usually finds for sale commercially on the street so please take due care. Also worth mentioning is that the above wood lovers only fruit for the most part once a year in the fall. P. Ovoids are the exception and given the right conditions can fruit twice a year but this is not the norm. I am just learning about these mushrooms myself and I am sure that there will be lots of input from more experienced members here. I believe that the information provided here provides you with the types of mushrooms which are in the top rankings so far as active contents go.
