Top 6 Cannabis Grow Books

There are hundreds of grow books out there, both good and bad; some are aimed at beginners, some at more advanced growers. Of these, just a few have truly stood the test of time, and are truly worth every penny. Here, we have selected the six grow books that stand out head and shoulders over the competition.

A good grower doesn’t just have a shed full of garden shears, fertilizer, soil and gardening gloves. A real grower also has a huge library full of trusted books that they can refer to anytime they need. Not just books that fill up space on the bookshelf either, but books that are game-changers when it comes to what you know about cannabis.

But the big world of books isn’t the easiest to navigate. So please let us take some of the difficulty out of finding a good cannabis book for you. Here is our list of the top 6 cannabis books to add your library.

1. The Sinsemilla Technique (1992) by Kayo

An early classic, Kayo’s The Sinsemilla Technique is aimed at beginner to mid-level growers, and maintains a readable, conversational and low-on-jargon tone throughout. In the early ‘90s, the now-ubiquitous method of separating the male and female plants to avoid pollination was unknown to many growers in the Western world.

As the technique started to become established, it enabled growers to reduce the size of their plots while increasing the quantity and potency of the cannabis they produced. As the book explains, decreasing the size of grows and switching to indoor cultivation became necessary as law enforcement grew increasingly vigilant and well-equipped.

Although The Sinsemilla Technique lacks a certain level of sophistication, it more than makes up for it by supplying a wealth of useful information, including growing charts and abundant diagrams. It is illustrated with dozens of photos, and packed with real-life stories of growers, their tactics, and their brushes with the law. The Sinsemilla Technique was in fact the very first grow book this author ever read, and it doubtless inspired a generation of young growers just as it did me.

2. The Cannabis Grow Bible: The Definitive Guide to Growing Marijuana for Medical and Recreational Use (2004) by Greg Green

Twelve years later, and this landmark book was the first notable publication to thoroughly describe another revolutionary technique, the now-ubiquitous Screen of Green (SCROG) — in which plants are pruned and trained to produce an even canopy, so that light penetration and yield are maximized.

The Cannabis Grow Bible is targeted at a wide range of skill levels, with detailed information of every aspect of growing from basic to very advanced. However, beginners may find it easy to get bogged down in the details, as the breadth and depth of the topics covered is staggering.

Both indoor and outdoor cultivation are covered in detail, and a range of budgets are catered for, with suggested equipment and materials ranging from high-end and expensive to low-cost and even DIY. Overall, this is a comprehensive and no-nonsense guide to cannabis cultivation, with particularly good layout and formatting making it well-presented and easy on the eye.

3. Cultivating Exceptional Cannabis: An Expert Breeder Shares His Secrets (2004) by DJ Short

DJ Short is renowned in growing circles, with 40 years of experience and a selection of greatly beloved strains such as the Blueberry and Flo. DJ Short has a thoughtful, caring approach to gardening, and offers advice on how to maximize flavor and quality with minimal environmental impact, rather than focusing primarily on potency and yield as many grow guides do.

As a breeder, DJ Short has extensive advice on selection, pollination and stabilization of strains for the purpose of creating strong, true-breeding new varieties. As well as this, there is a strong emphasis on organic cultivation, and plenty of advice on how to fine-tune your set-up so that resources such as electricity and nutrients are not wasted. Each main aspect of growing is explained in a simple yet effective manner, with gorgeous photographs of Short’s strains as illustration.

Cultivating Exceptional Cannabis is an excellent addition to any grower’s library, but given its short length, it does not go into every aspect of growing in great detail. More than a complete guide, it is a supplementary work that will allow growers to take their existing knowledge to new heights.

4. Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower’s Bible (2007) by Jorge Cervantes

Jorge Cervantes’ Grower’s Bible is perhaps the most comprehensive and exhaustive book on cultivating cannabis that has ever been published. A weighty, inch-thick brick of text, diagrams, charts and photographs, the Grower’s Bible offers simple, easily-understandable directions on every aspect of growing you can think of, along with another hundred you hadn’t!

Excellent layout and formatting makes it easy to navigate around the numerous sections; each chapter is broken down into subsections and thoroughly indexed, and for such an encyclopaedic work, Cervantes’ writing style makes finding answers to your questions surprisingly enjoyable and interesting.

The first edition of the phenomenon that was to evolve into the present-day Grower’s Bible was published in 1983, with the name Indoor Marijuana Horticulture. The first edition was just 96 pages long, with black and white photos, and bound together with staples! Now in its fifth edition, the Bible has grown to comprise 512 colour pages with 1,120 photographs and diagrams.

5. Marijuana Grower’s Handbook (2010) by Ed Rosenthal

The “Ask Ed” edition of the Marijuana Grower’s Handbook has it all. As exhaustive and in-depth as Cervantes’ Grow Bible, with the added extra of a Q&A column packed with problems and solutions sure to be relevant to any grower, the Handbook is perhaps the most beloved of all cannabis grow books.

Ed Rosenthal’s humble yet authoritative style has won him an army of fans, and with good reason. His extensive experience in both growing and activism has cemented his status as a hero of the legalization movement, and his obvious enthusiasm shines out of his books and videos. The Handbook is even used as official course materials at the University of Oaksterdam!

The Handbook is another publication that has stood the test of time, with its first edition appearing in the mid-80s and a revised edition released in 1989. Since then, there have been several new editions, ensuring that all content is up-to-date and relevant in the rapidly-evolving world of cannabis cultivation.

6. True Living Organics: The Ultimate Guide To Growing All-Natural Marijuana Indoors (2012) by The Rev

The list simply wouldn’t be complete without a book that outlines, in great detail, what’s involved in having an organic marijuana garden. When The Rev decided to convert his synthetic-fertilized hydroponic growing system into an organic indoor system, he also chose to write this book about it.

In this book, The Rev goes through the exact process of having an organic indoor marijuana garden. He also outlines the kinds of things you have to do to convert an already-existing indoor setup into an organic one.

Aside from the detailed instructions, there are also over 200 images in the book to illustrate every topic that The Rev talks about. In fact, The Rev even gives invaluable information about making your own organic fertilizers, pesticides and more.

Of course, this list isn’t exhaustive! We think these are some of the greatest cannabis books out there, but there might have been a couple that we miss. If you’ve got a favourite cannabis book that we haven’t mentioned, let us know in the comments!

A fine, well-rounded collection of books is essential to any novice or experienced grower. We’ve rounded up six books that belong in your cannabis library.

Top HIGH YIELD Strains List: Indoor & Outdoor Seeds

The highest yielding strains to grow indoors and outdoors from seed. High yield cannabis seeds list of the most productive strains for easy, heavy harvests.

Highest Yielding Indoor Strains

Big Bud

The definitive cash crop strain. Big Bud is a multi-award winning high yield marijuana strain created from Afghani, Skunk #1 and Northern Lights genetics preserved to this day by Sensi Seeds.

? The responsive plants stay at a medium height indoors and really pack on the extra weight during flowering. Best grown in a warm dry climate if cultivated outdoors.

⚖️ Big Bud is the most well-known high yield weed strain since the eighties. Its huge buds gain too much weight to hold themselves up, so they must be supported.

? Subtle, sweet and hashy flavors. With drowsiness, red eyes, munchies, Big Bud’s effects are the typical couch-lock indica.

? Also good for breeders, Grand Daddy Purp is a prime example of using Big Bud genetics to increase the yields of purple weed strains.

Great job.

Thanks Paul I appreciate the kind words. Have a great day.

love it… great job

Thanks Raymond have a good one ?

If the stats are real I only ask one question that seems to get the wishy wash answers or a flat out lie,HOW LONG DOES A PLANT THAT GETS OVER 2 LBS AT FINISH HAVE TO VEG BEFORE IT FLOWERS?Myself,I have grown my share and to get a plant to 4-5lbs in one growing season few months seems an impossible task. The revegged method seems to throw a lot of limbs and if u are good at training, have support around and all over it,then maybe I could see a plant grown inside started in feb or march and finishing in Nov being a couple lbs but hearing of 10lb tree of blue dream or seeing some of the trees people grow I just have that one simple question..and cannot get a strait answer most times.A 55 day flower is great but it must have grown for quite some time to get enough size to have an enormous amount of bud in 55 days after veg and being put outside in june,or 12/12 in a place with 100sq ft a plant floor space with a 15 ft ceiling

Start with a 6x6x 1ft deep pot(8x8x1ft is even better but its a pain come harvest) feed your baby(that you started indoors in feb/march) well and on time, top when ready and strip out all the larfy bud about halfway thru flower and THEN you will start to see 5+lb plants. Good luck

I’ve done 1040g on one plant indoors with dwc on an average strain. That was a 38 day veg and 9 week flower. It’s about genetics and environmental control. I ran led and rdwc chilled and ro water.

I think Big Bud is the highest yielding strain.
One more note to you, this is the Incredible Bulk from Dr. Krippling.
It might not get a medal position, but in many ways better than the other strain. It is a high-yielding and large-sized plant, tolerant of all pests and although blooming late, produces an explosive miracle. Avoids pollination by wild and industrial hemp. It has great hybrid properties. Hassle-free, but thanks to high calcium and magnesium supply.

Ohhh Oklahomans have and had good genetics but our weather changes more than a female tryna impress at the club… So with humidity it’s a struggle and dense buds can get “bud rot” so I prefer to create and work on strains that can thrive here … we’re not even 2 yrs into legalization

One of best and informative sites with great information and easy to navigate site
Great job man

Very informative with a good choice of high yielding strains. I live in a very wet region in the pnw, and I’m leaning towards super skunk for a both inside and outside grows. I can’t wait to try it out and see what happens. Who wants a bunch of bud if it’s not high quality so super skunk sounds good to me.

Wheres THC Bomb?

Somewhere making lower yields and quality than Cluster Bomb.

Are these estimated yields by experienced grower? Or is that a minimum and maximum.. seems to me little high numbers. I’ve gotten 1.1lbs off my white widows outdoor last season but I’ve yet to see kilos off singular plant.

It’s all estimated amounts. A lot of us can really wring the weight out with the right seasonal conditions. That 4-5lb per plant mark is in areas perfect for growing and of course outdoors. I get the about 1.5 from a single WW indoors but I control it’s whole environment and I have limited space. My best yielder was a 4 plant run in 4×4. Seedsman Big Nugs Fast. I vegged and trained vigorously for 6 weeks and she banged it out it 7 weeks bloom (including transistion). Final weigh -in DRY was 2.96 lb (7 gallon Final size air pots, remo nutes DTW (30%+ runoff fed daily, FloraKleen Flush bi-weekly) 65% coco/ 30% Perlite/5% Basalt, CO²) and Bigs Nugs is just their variety of big bud when you look at the genetics. (I’m not plugging seedman at all because it’s all pirated genetics. But they are good genetics. Alaskan Purple is a beast outdoors and it’s almost never in stock in the late winter and through spring for this reason. A couple missing here are: Julie’s Cookies from Dr. Krippling,(she produces some big ass colas), The right Pheno of Super Lemon Haze from Greenhouse can seriously produce. (I’ve personally seen 3lbs from 4×4 consistently from a friends clones) TH Seeds Heavy Duty Fruity is another that will break 600 g/m² with the right care although she is a bit more finicky on her nutes that the last two.

I like to learn more, would you be willing to coach? We can discuss more. Please let me know. Thanks!

big bud is the one for me reaching over 3 meters tall is one big plant this is in Tasmania with 2lbs easy and easy to grow 400 litres grow bags and plenty of water and feed all the time

My big bud grew to a 1.4m height. Grown in pig manure in a 300 litre volume blowhole in limestone rock. This plant yeilded and yielded and created branches to be propped and tied up everywhere. Now this plant yielded 5 and a half pounds of over manicured bud. Trimmed differently I know conservatively it would have comes in at 6 pounds all told. South Australia turned on a beautiful finishing season. And many a person raved on about it for an evening smoke. Cheers

With airpots, what growing medium and nutrient brand do you find most effective?

orange kush strain

Orange kush strain

Its really useful and amazing. It helps me get shit done.

Any strain with Kush in it’s name is generally going to have an earthy, hashy taste (Hindu Kush. mountain terrain indica plants)with whatever it’s crossed with..This case Cali Orange Bud a sativa leaning pheno of Skunk #1 that isn’t citrusy. it’s orange/tangerine tasting. It def is indica dominant and like any Kush will eventually Knock you out..If you want more of the uplifting creative effects micro dose and wait 30-45 min. Also growers all have their own techniques so not all bud is equal. My Orange Kush is so luscious and tasty it smells of sunny delight and traditional Kush funk. Perfect for after dinner sesh to send you to la la land. My pics are the two iced out best pics by miles on here. They are just #drippy. And anyone who get’s paranoid try smoking less, eating something and wait. If still paranoid CBD gummies, pebbles, will get rid of any weird feelings with in 15 min. I take 10mg to offset a vibe i’m not vibing with.

The sativa genes of OG Kush and the indica genes of Orange Bud were blended to form Orange Kush, allegedly an indica-dominant hybrid (reports on the sativa/indica ratio of this strain are unreliable at best). The flavor is tangy and citrusy while the smell has strong, sweet notes of orange. The b…

Forum cut cookies strain

First introduced to the Funk online through UGL Reviews in 2019 and from then on I’ve been hooked! Sweetest taste, best buzz and was getting it for as little as $200 an ounce at Giving Tree in Cave Creek but since have found a new disp 120 miles south in Tucson The Saints and am now buying if for $138 an OZ! Worth the drive down and I gotta say, Tucson Saints is the best Med Dispensary in the entire state of AZ without a doubt! Cheers, stay lifted, roll your splilffs, charge your vapes, light your bongs!! PPP

Really great lift. Smoke smooth as silk. Really feelin it behind the eyes and above my ears. This is probably my favorite micro dose strain. Just enough to stay lifted yet productive.

A grower needs exactly none of the ingirmation contained in this “review” it snacks of wirthless High Times Style puffers porn. Hiw dues it grow? What specific needs does it have? What is the flowering time? Get professional.

Flavorful it’s got that power that you know you can conquer whatever is setting you back

Really bomb cookies. Very chocolaty, and little minty. Sometimes they taste like chocolate ice-cream, with a cookie dough undertone. World class cannabis. Famously low producer though. Still if you get your hands on a cut of Forum cut Gsc your a lucky man or woman. Killer 1-2 punch head-body combo. Must try if over 23% THC and pretty.

This shit blows minds. In addition to three other strains — Narnia, Headband, Northern Berry — I picked up an 1/8th of “Forum Cut Cookies” at High Desert Cannabis in Pendleton, OR, on the way to three days of Phish at the Gorge. They marked it as only 17.8% THC, 0% CBD. As you might imagine, there were a LOT of pot strains and other tasties making their way around and through the festival, but among the crowd I hung with, nothing took people deeper than the Forum Cut. Smoke enough of this stuff and you may even get visuals like I did. BEAUTIFUL buds. AMAZING high. This stuff is, as Richard Evan Schultes might say, a “plant of the gods.” I liked it so much I bought a full ounce on the way home. PS: Northern Berry deserves some props, too.

Forum Cookies is a phenotype of the infamous Girl Scout Cookies strain, an indica dominant hybrid (60% indica/40% sativa) strain created through a cross of the infamous Durban Poison X Cherry Kush strains. This bud gets its name from the forum where it originated – – and has a sativa d…

Something New

10 Terrifying Facts You Need To Know About Guillermo del Toro’s FX Series The Strain

FX series The Strain was criminally under-watched. Created by Guillermo del Toro, here’s what fans should know about this vampire medical procedural.

FX’s The Strain combines viral outbreaks and vampires in fascinating ways. This horror series, which aired for four seasons between 2014 and 2017, features an ensemble cast navigating a world overrun by a virus connected to an ancient form of vampirism. Set in New York City, The Strain follows these disparate characters as they band together in order to ensure their survival.

The Strain stands apart from other recent vampire dramas. Not only does it take the genre in new directions, but the series also presents itself like a medical procedural — one with a supernatural edge. Despite being co-created by genre icon Guillermo del Toro, The Strain remains criminally under-watched. Fortunately, all four seasons are currently available on Hulu. Here’s everything you need to know before you binge this unique horror show.

10 It Is Based On Three Novels By Del Toro And Chuck Hogan

Before he developed the show, Guillermo del Toro co-wrote The Strain trilogy with novelist and screenwriter Chuck Hogan. The pair waited until after they finished the books before developing the television show. They decided upon FX because the network wanted to remain faithful to the books.

Even though they hoped to make it a five-season series, under FX’s guidance, del Toro and Hogan condensed their storyline to four.

9 The Series Follows A Viral Outbreak

Corey Stoll plays Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scientist who is called upon when all of the passengers on a large commuter plane are found dead. With his colleague, Dr. Nora Martinez (Mía Maestro), Dr. Goodweather traces the strange virus that affected all the passengers onboard.

Soon, the CDC doctors realize they’ve got much more on their hands than a deadly virus. What they’re dealing with is a contagion that turns everyone infected into vicious vampires.

8 The Virus Is Connected To An Ancient Form Of Vampirism

Dr. Goodweather and Dr. Martinez cross paths with a cantankerous old man named Professor Abraham Setrakian, played by David Bradley. Setrakian’s character pays homage to Dracula’s vampire hunter, Abraham Van Helsing.

As the virus slowly starts to transform those it infects into vampires, Setrakian works with the doctors to share his knowledge of this grotesque strain of vampirism, which goes back to his youth in Poland.

7 The Vampirism Involves Complex Mythology And Folklore

As the show evolves, the history and origin of its particular brand of vampirism are explored. The strain originates with an ancient being known as the Master, a supernatural entity that inhabits human beings in order to remain alive. The Master arrives in New York at the behest of some powerful acolytes who hope to take over the world.

It turns out the Master controls all those infected with the virus. There is only one way to kill this seemingly indestructible being: an old tome called the Occido Lumen.

6 The Plot Incorporates World War II History

Thomas Eichhorst, played by Richard Sammel, is one of the Master’s highest-ranking acolytes, a ruthless killer who wants to see the human race consigned to the status of vampire food. Eichhorst was an SS officer in World War II who ran the camp that Abraham Setrakian was imprisoned in during the war.

Eichhorst is a vampire whose fascist ideology persists in the present. The Strain explores the vampirism’s connection to Nazis and World War II. After surviving the Holocaust, Setrakian dedicates his life to waging war against the vampires.

5 It Takes A Procedural Approach, Focusing On Government Response

Chuck Hogan’s experience writing screenplays for procedurals prepared him for The Strain‘s special blend of horror and methodological investigations. In addition to focusing on the CDC, The Strain traces how the government responds to the supernatural epidemic.

Samantha Mathis plays Justine Feraldo, a councilwoman for Staten Island who suspects some high-level government officials are involved in the Master’s arrival in New York. This adds extra tension to the narrative.

4 The Series Also Includes Classic Horror Elements

For those who like to be scared, The Strain doesn’t hold back in delivering plenty of terror. The more intellectual aspects of the plot are balanced out by action, gore, and moments of pure fright.

Kevin Durand’s character Vasiliy Fet serves as the classic action movie hero in the series. This tough Ukrainian rat exterminator brings his fighting skills to the group of the survivors, balancing out Setrakian’s knowledge and the doctors’ medical expertise.

3 Del Toro’s Stylized Approach To Storytelling Is Evident Here

Guillermo del Toro builds believable yet fantastical worlds in his films. That skill is evident in The Strain, too. While aspects of the series are inspired by procedurals like CSI or The Wire, del Toro fills it with horror atmospherics.

From camera work to lighting, every aspect of The Strain fills viewers with the sense that something awful lurks around the corner. The series usually delivers on that promise.

2 Plays On Vampire And Zombie Tropes

The vampires in The Strain are unlike others in cinema and literature. Instead of fangs, these creatures attack by projecting a long, proboscis-like tongue into their victim’s neck. Once turned, these creatures go after their loved ones first.

Abraham Setrakian refers to these beings as Strigoi. The Strain also includes daywalkers and an ancient coterie of vampires the Master once belonged to but eventually broke away from.

1 It Is Currently Streaming On Hulu

If you’re into vampires, procedurals, and the ancient fight between good and evil, The Strain is the series for you. Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s expertise is evident throughout the entire series.

The Strain contains nuanced characters and a compelling narrative that is often hard to predict. Fortunately, you can watch every season on Hulu.

This strain is great and lasts forever. I really enjoy the flavor profile of it as well as it has a ton of beneficial medical properties that are undeniable like stress relief pain relief appetite increased greatly as well fun vibes.?

Great hybrid for pain mood mild energy if needed and used lightly. I feel its a great strain for day or night. Stay up family old or new.

This stuff typifies what made OG so special and drove the nation nuts in the late 90s and early 2000s. I was able to grab some Rosin of this by Bedford Grow from an Illinois dispensary and its one of the best purchases I have made since getting my card. This is just straight gas, diesel, lemon, funk and earth/dirt and indeed has some of that hashy coffee bite. It basically has ever flavor found in the OG except for the marshmellow/sweet. This was my first dab after a 7 day tolerance break so I am getting the full aspects of the high. Rosin really lets the full spectrum shine through. I have 20 years of Cannabis experience and can report its effects are indeed classic OG flexible, low doses are functional and medical. Great focus, mood lift and not very sedating with a good body buzz. Higher doses are going to be more typical of an afghani/hash like high. Cerebral and stony.

RudeBoi OG, also known as “Rude Boi” or “Rude Boi Kush,” is a slightly indica dominant hybrid strain (60% indica/40% sativa) created through crossing the classic Irene OG X Face Off OG strains. Best known for its super potent high, Rude Boi OG is often sought after for its insanely long-lasting …

A highly sought after medical hybrid th at comprises of two of the best classic strains the West Coast has to offer. A tall growing plant that loves to be trained for the ultimate yields in just 9 weeks.

Genetics: She was created by crossing two West Coast legends, O.G Kush and Sour Diesel. Both strains are well known for their potency and aggressive terpene profiles. The result was a massive yielding monster plant, that retained the same flowering time as the O.G Kush.

Strain Characteristics: Thanks to her blend of indica and sativa heritage, Chemdog Feminized is an easy to grow hybrid, well suited for beginner growers. She is especially adapted to plant training making her a great candidate for low grow spaces indoors, and for keeping a low profile outdoors.

It is well advised to support this epic yielding hybrid early on, as she will produce commercial scale harvests of upto 800 g/m², in as little as 63 days when grown closely together in a Sea of Green. Her final height will be medium / tall and the bud structure will have a fat, stocky appearance that oozes trichomes everywhere. Thanks to her high resistance, she performs very well in all climates and has a strong resistance to wet and windy weather. This lady has a very high cannabinoid profile with a THC/CBD ratio of 14:1.

Experiencing this strain: Chemdog Feminized is a wonderful strain for medical patients seeking therapeutic relief, as well as those who are in search of a deeply relaxing cultivar perfect for meditation and unwinding. An ideal strain to end a long busy day and certainly one for night times as she has the power to send you unexpectedly into dreamland. Her flavours are intense and can be described as diesel, fuel, gas, citrus, earth with chemical overtones. Medical patients may find this hybrid useful for relieving stress and tension, anxiety, muscle pain and cramps as well as relieve insomnia. We recommend this strain to professional smokers and connoisseurs of coma inducing pure potency.

What makes this strain so great: Easily one of the largest yielding varieties on the planet, with soaring high cannabinoid profile. An excellent choice for beginner growers and medical patients looking for the next best thing to grow at home.
