New Jersey SEEDS (Scholars, Educators, Excellence, Dedication, Success) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 that prepares motivated, high-achieving, low-income students for admission to private schools and colleges throughout the country. Each year, we have more than 300 students enrolled in our three education programs, and we provide guidance services to some 480 of our more than 1,630 alumni
College Scholars Program (CSP), established in 2007, prepares academically motivated high school students for admission to selective four-year colleges. CsP provides academic enrichment, SAT Preparation, cultural enrichment, leadership retreats, exposure to a variety of top-tier colleges and universities, and assistance with the college admissions and financial aid processes. Currently, approximately 90 students from our partner high schools – Dwight Morrow High School (Englewood), Orange High School (Orange) or Trenton Central High School (Trenton) – participate in this program.
Throughout high school, CSP students participate in enrichment classes held every Saturday during the school year. Each summer, the students attend a residential program held at Hobart and William Smith Colleges (Geneva, NY).
Diborah Yimer, an alumnus of the NJ SEEDS College Scholars Program came to the United States as a refugee from Ethiopia, with limited English speaking ability at the age of 12. While she was always a hard-working student, she lacked knowledge about how to prepare herself for a collegiate education. Joining the program, as a Freshman in high school, Diborah fully immersed herself in its academic enrichment and tutoring opportunities, college advisement sessions, college tours, college mentoring and financial aid guidance. As a result, Diborah successfully navigated the college, graduating within the top 10 of her high school class, and received scholarships and grants covering the full cost for her to attend Denison University (OH), where she is currently a freshman student.
